Red flags

When should you stop and call a professional?

Six signs that the problem is past DIY. Turn the system off and pick up the phone — running a system with these issues turns cheap repairs into expensive replacements.

  • Refrigerator is warm and food is at risk

A warm fridge with food inside is a time-sensitive repair. We prioritize no-cool calls across the county.

  • Washing machine is leaking water actively

Shut off the supply valves behind the washer and call. Continued cycles during a leak cause major water damage fast.

  • Gas smell near a gas range, oven, or dryer

Shut off the gas valve and leave the area. Do not flip switches or light anything. Call SDG&E emergency or 911 for a strong leak.

  • Sparking, smoking, or burning smell from any appliance

Electrical issue. Kill power at the breaker immediately. Don't plug back in until diagnosed.

  • Dishwasher leaking onto the kitchen floor

Shut off the water supply valve under the sink and open the dishwasher door to stop the cycle. Water under cabinets damages wood fast.

  • Microwave sparking or arcing during cooking

Magnetron or waveguide failure. Stop using it immediately — the high-voltage components in a microwave are not DIY-safe.
